Grade 2/ Day 2
#1 This week
we were given instructions that were broad and we could choose what order we
did them in. We were given the instructions to draw on three separate pages an
organic shape, geometric shape and a recognizable shape. One shape needed to be
close to the whole page, one close to half of a page and one close to a quarter
of a page (small, medium, large). Then we were to cut out these shapes. Next,
we were to use 3 different textures to fill each shape. We could use, crayon
rubbing, wallpaper, random material (tissue, and cloth)
#2 Today I
learned how texture can be shown in a variety of ways. When I previously user to think of texture I used to think of the word bumpy and when I run my fingers along it i thought I had to really be able to feel bumps. Today taught me that it doesn't always need to be bumpy, but it could be silky, smooth, rough, soft etc.
#3Throughout
todays lesson I communicated the feeling of life. I took three random shapes and put them together adding to them to create an insect giving off the feeling of life. When you look at the first picture you see that these shapes are are pretty flat when sitting on the desk. By adding the leaves and legs and wings by the third picture the image is brought to life and has life like characteristics. I felt this drastically changed the way I looked at the project from start to finish. At first I though about cutting and pasting the shapes together but as I went along it became more life like and felt more real to me.
#4 What I liked most about this project was following many instructions, then given a final instruction that could have been anything. The final instruction was to take the 3 textured shapes and make it into an insect. This made it very fun as you had to take away, add and rearrange the shapes giving it the look of an insect.

#5 To
change this project it would be neat to see it duplicated with two end results.
For example make two of each shapes then have the students create an insect
with one of each shape and create an instrument with the other shapes. Then
students can compare them and see how texture makes a difference for different
outcomes.
